On the 20th December 1976, three suitcases were found beneath a bridge along the Lehigh River in White Haven, Pensylvania. The cases contained the remains of an unidentified pregnant woman, who is believed to be between 16 and 22 years of age. She was quickly named Beth Doe.
Later, an autopsy revealed that Beth Doe had been strangled and shot in the neck before being dismembered. Her remains had then been placed into the three suitcases, although her ears, nose, and breasts have never been found.
During her autopsy, the medical examiner noted a set of writing on the victim’s left hand. It consisted of the letters WSR and the number 4 or 5, accompanied by 4 or 7. If Beth Doe wrote them herself, it would indicate she was right-handed. The medical examiner confirmed the writing would have been written within her last 8-12 hours alive.
Detectives believe the suitcases were thrown from atop the bridge, possibly with the killer hoping for them to land in the river and be washed away, destroying any evidence. Instead, they fell approximately 300 feet before two of them came to a stop in the woods, only 20 feet from the river, while the third suitcase, that which contained both her head and child, came to a rest on the riverbank. Having been dropped from such a great distance, two of the suitcases had busted open so that the head and fetus, as well as her torso, became noticeable.
In an effort to locate anyone with information, detectives showcased a reconstruction of the suitcases used in the disposal of Beth Doe and her child’s remains. Two of the suitcases were blue and had a red, blue and white stripe. The third case was tan and had a dark plaid design. Each suitcase had been spray-painted black with the handles severed.
Inside the suitcases, officials discovered further evidence, including straw, some packing foam, a reddish-orange bedcover, and waterlogged remnants of a newspaper that was determined to be from The New York Sunday dated 26 September 1976. It was later linked to the northern part of New Jersey, where the perpetrator may have ties. The bedding and newspaper were used to wrap various remains.
As for identifying Beth Doe, it’s been over forty years and still, to this day, she is without her true name - though not for lack of trying. Isotope testing conducted on her teeth, hair, and bones revealed that she had lived in the U.S. for 5 to 10 years, and likely had resided in Tennessee or a nearby state. Analysis of Beth Doe’s unborn daughter indicated that the child had gestated while the victim was in the Southeastern part of the country.
Beth Doe is described as being approximately 4'11 to 5'4, with naturally dark brown shoulder-length hair. Due to her pregnancy, she weighed about 140 to 150 pounds. She had two moles (or beauty marks) on her face, one above her left eye and the other on her right cheek. She also had a scar visible above one heel.
Dora Buenrostro and Alex Buenrostro had been together for 17 years, living in Los Angeles, California. The couple went on to have three children - Susana, 9, Vicente, 8, and Deidra, 4. Eventually the marriage broke down and Alex moved out of the marital home. The breakup was particularly messy with both parties spewing insults at one another. Dora moved from Los Angeles to San Jacinto with the children and Alex stayed in contact, regularly visiting.
On the 27th of October, 1994, Alex was arrested as he left work. He was placed in handcuffs as reporters shouted questions to him about his children. He would soon discover that his two eldest children had been stabbed to death and the youngest was missing. Susana and Vincete were found at Dora’s home with stab wounds to their necks. Hours later, Deidra was found strapped into a child’s car seat with a broken knife blade in her neck. She had been dumped at an abandoned post office in Lakeview west of San Jacinto. After she was stabbed in the neck, she was stabbed several times with a ballpoint pen.
Dora had rushed to the police station and claimed that Alex had killed their children. However, an investigation would prove that Alex was in Los Angeles at the time of the slayings and all evidence pointed towards Dora being the killer. Blood of the children was found in her car and purse - she claimed it was planted there. During her trial, Dora showed a clear lack of remorse. It was put forward that she had killed the children after an argument with Alex. The prosecution argued she had planned the killings to hurt Alex and then tried to implicate him. She was found guilty and sentenced to death.
The final two photographs of 21 year-old Sarah Goode, posted to her Instagram account on June 6th, 2014.
On that evening, Sarah left her 4 year-old daughter with her mother so she could attend a party in Medford, New York. While there, she posted the above picture (on the right) of her smiling and enjoying the party with her friends. It was typical for Sarah and her friends to be out all night when they got together, so Sarah’s mother initially did not worry when she did not return home that night. However, when Sarah failed to show up at her nephew’s birthday party the next day, her family knew something was amiss. After an unsuccessful search for her, Sarah’s family reported her missing on June 8th, 2014.
Two days later, Sarah’s car was found abandoned about a mile from her home. Inside of it, investigators spotted a bloody handprint and numerous other blood stains. This discovery prompted a massive search by volunteers in the surrounding area. On the evening of June 12th, 2014, a searcher found Sarah’s half-naked body was founded in a wooded area located less than a mile away. An autopsy revealed that she had been raped and stabbed over forty times.
Over a month later, 19 year-old Dante Taylor was arrested and charged with raping and murdering Sarah. Taylor attended that same party in Medford on the night of June 6th, and cell phone records revealed that he and Sarah had been communicating via calls and texts earlier that day. Additionally, forensic testing revealed that the bloody handprint in Sarah’s car belonged to Taylor.
It is believed that Sarah’s untimely death was the result of a sexually-motivated attack. At the trial, the prosecution said that Taylor was angry that night because Sarah had rejected his sexual advances. As a result, Taylor dragged Sarah out the the woods, raped her, beat her so hard that a piece of metal was found lodged in her skull, and stabbed her to death. The jury found Taylor guilty on all counts and he was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. In October 2017, he was found dead in his jail cell. His cause of death has not been released.
Robert Landsburg
These photographs were taken by Robert Landsburg (an American photographer). They show the eruption of Mount Saint Helens in 1980. Landsburg knew he would be unable to outrun the ash cloud, so he kept taking as many pictures as he could. He put the camera and film roll in his backpack, which he then shielded using his own body. He did not survive, but his last efforts prevented his final pictures from being incinerated. The film roll was damaged, but nevertheless survived to tell the story of Landsburg’s last moments.
Lorraine Thorpe (top left) was just 15-years-old when she joined because one of Britain’s most sadistic women killers. She killed her father and his friend in separate incidents in 2010.
The first victim was 41-year-old Rosalyn Hunt (bottom left.) Rosalyn was in a relationship with 42-year-old Paul Clarke (top right), both of whom were alcoholics. Lorraine’s father, Desmond Thorpe (bottom right), was also an alcoholic who was described as being a “very vulnerable person.” Desmond and Lorraine’s mother split up when she was just 12-years-old and she went to live with her father. In fact, due to being a “hopeless alcoholic,” she became his carer. However, she didn’t do much caring for him - she would frequently abuse and beat her unstable father. Lorraine was influenced by being in the company of Paul, who was the “dominant member” of a group of heavy drinkers which included Rosalyn and Desmond. She stopped going to school and avoided social services.
In August of 2012, Paul got into an argument with Rosalyn. He accused her of hitting his dog and allowing it to bite a child in Ipswich town centre. A fight broke out while Lorraine and Paul were at Rosalyn’s apartment. Over the course of several days, Lorraine and Paul inflicted unimaginable torture on Rosalyn. She was whipped with a dog chain, had her hair set on fire and had salt poured in her wounds. She was punched and kicked in the head and a cheese grater and electric fan were rubbed into her face. When police found her in her apartment, she had suffered heavy blows to her neck and chest and had none broken ribs. Lorraine boasted to a friend that she had stamped on her head. Days after Rosalyn’s murder, Lorraine and Paul smothered Desmond to death over fears he would go to police. Before being smothered, he too had been beaten by the duo.
Both Lorraine Thorpe and Paul Clarke were found guilty of both murders. Paul was sentenced to a minimum of 27 years while Lorraine was sentenced to a minimum of 14 years. On the 1st of September, 2014, Paul Clarke committed suicide in his prison cell.
Natalie Wood was one of the biggest Hollywood stars up until her untimely death on November 29, 1981. From an early age, Natalie had a deep fear of dark water and had reoccurring nightmares of drowning. Even a fortune teller had prophesied that she would die of drowning. Two days before her passing, she and her husband, actor Robert Wagner, were invited by her co-star Christopher Walken to go onto his yacht. Natalie was said to be infatuated by Christopher, sparking much jealousy from her husband. For the majority of the weekend, everyone drank heavily, and an argument broke out between Natalie and Robert at some point. Although, after dinner, they seemingly made up. Then, Christopher and Robert got into a heated political debate. Natalie, not wanting to get involved, eventually got up and left. After about an hour, her husband went back to their room to wish her a goodnight, but Natalie was nowhere to be found. Only six hours later, her body was discovered floating face-down in the Pacific Ocean, only a mile away from the yacht, wearing only a jacket, nightgown, and socks. There was a cut on her cheek as well as bruises on her body. An inflatable dinghy was also found washed up on the rocks. There were scratch marks on it, suggesting that Natalie tried to climb in as it floated away from the yacht. Her death was ruled accidental, as it was believed she likely fell into the water after drinking so much. However, others had their doubts. Witnesses that were aboard another boat nearby had heard a woman screaming for help, but assumed it was associated with the party on the yacht. The case was reopened in 2011 when the captain of the boat, Dennis Davern, stepped forward to point the finger at her husband. He stated that he had heard Robert and Natalie arguing, and also heard sounds of the dinghy being untied.
The LA coroners changed Natalie’s cause of death from ‘’accidental drowning’’ to ‘’drowning and other undetermined factors’’. Her husband denies Dennis’ claims that he was, in any way, involved in Natalie Wood’s mysterious drowning.
Ted Bundy said he didn’t show any emotion at his trial because he didn’t want to give authorities who built a case against him the satisfaction of seeing him break down.
« Am I going to jump up on the table? Should I scream? That’s what I felt like doing. I heard my mother crying. It was an emotional time. I don’t even like to think about that day. Sure, I’m mad…But I’ve kept it together because there’s no point in destroying myself. I don’t try to please or impress people, because of the amount of bias and prejudice that surrounds me as a media image. I can’t begin to tear that down… » Ted Bundy after being convicted of kidnapping in 1976.
Nicole Brown Simpson after being physically attacked by her husband, O.J. Simpson. Only 11 months later would she be brutally stabbed so many times that she was found nearly decapitated. Her husband was charged with the murder. After what became the most infamous trial to this day, he was found not guilty.
On April 26, 2006, 12-year-old Jasmine Richardson, along with her 23-year-old boyfriend Jeremy Steinke, entered the Richardson home in Medicine Hat, Alberta, and together they brutally stabbed the entire family to death, including Jasmine’s parents and 8-year-old brother. Jasmine was motivated to kill her family after being punished by her parents for dating Jeremy, due to the broad age gap. Before the murder, Jeremy and a couple of his friends watched the 1994 film Natural Born Killers. Jeremy then turned to his friends and told them that he and Jasmine were going to carry out a similar attack. Both were charged with three counts of first-degree murder. While Jeremy was sentenced to three life sentences, Jasmine only received ten years in prison. Jasmine Richardson is believed to be Canada’s youngest convicted killer.

Where is Iwona Wieczorek?
On July 17, 2010, eighteen-year-old Iwona Wieczorek disappeared after attending a party in the city of Gdansk, Poland. At around 12:15am Iwona left the party and went to a club in Sopot with four friends. Iwona eventually got in a fight with one of her friends and left the club, walking towards the seaside. At this point Iwona had very little money and her phone battery was low. She decided to wait for dawn and stayed close to the beach until around 4am, after that she started walking home barefoot, her new shoes were hurting her and she decided to take them off, there’s footage of Iwona walking close to the beach in direction to her home, it was a walk of about 6km (3,7 miles). During her journey she allegedly texted her friend Adria, with whom she had a fight earlier and accordin to Adria they set the argument over the phone. She told Adria she was too drunk to go home and face her mother, Adria offered to leave the keys of her home for Iwona to come in once she arrived, this was the last time Iwona contacted anyone. At the time Iwona called Adria she was allegedly passing by Iwona’s house, apparently they lived nearby each other, and Iwona’s stepfather claims he heard Iwona’s voice and not only Adria’s, Adria justified this saying she was on speaker with Iwona. The CCTV footage of Iwona walking close to the beach shows a man with a towel at a short distance from Iwona, he has not been identified and according to the police he has nothing to do with Iwona’s disappearance. According to the police theory Iwona made it safely to the area where she lived but was then abducted by someone who was probably waiting in a car and who she knew. A few months before Iwona had dated a twenty-five-year-old cop, after they broke up, shortly before her disappearance, he was seen around her house a couple of times but he was never seen as a person of interest by the police. Iwona was only reported missing on July 17 at around 7pm, her parents thought she had stayed at Adria’s house and according to Adria she thought Iwona had gone home instead of coming to her house. The investigation on Iwona’s disappearance only started one week after the fact, at first the police had thought she was partying somewhere else or that she had simply ran away, during this week important pieces of evidence might have disappeared. No traces of Iwona were ever found, not even her belongings. The case had a lot of media attention in Poland and was even worked on by psychics and clairvoyants. There is a reward of 1 000 000 polish zloty, around 270K US dollars to anyone who might give any information on what may have happened to Iwona but to this day no one has given any reliable information that may help solve the case. There are a lot of theories surrounding Iwona, some say she fell victim to sex trafficking, other’s say she was a call girl, there’s also rumours that her friends were involved in a drug related business and that she knew too much and was killed because of that. Some people believe that what Iwona’s stepfather heard was actually Iwona speaking to Adria in person and not a phone conversation on speaker, if this is true Adria probably knows what happened to Iwona but never told the truth. Even with all these theories what happened to Iwona on that night is still a mystery. Iwona Wieczorek remains missing to this day.

Images of Hopewell Smallpox Hospital on Porter’s Island, Ottawa. The building opened in in 1913 and had room for 82 patients at its height. Before the hospital was built, Porter’s Island had housed isolation cases during outbreaks in tent hospitals. These conditions discouraged infected individuals from willingly going there without force.
Negative views of isolation on the island also influenced public resistance against the building of a hospital. Until an outbreak of smallpox in 1911, Ottawa citizens instead saw it more fitting that it be used as a public park.
Interestingly, the building’s architect, Frank C. Sullivan, worked on it in close collaboration with Frank Lloyd Wright.
Clinton Road begins at Route 23 near Newfoundland, in New Jersey, and runs 10 miles towards Upper Greenwood Lake. However, this isn’t any regular road. In fact, it’s said to be one of the most haunted roads in the world. The road is rife with much folklore and legends surrounding the paranormal. Furthermore, it is said that many strange creatures gather in the area surrounding this road as well as witches, satanists, and the Ku Klux Klan.
One legend says that if you stop at the bridge over “Dead Man’s Curve” and put a quarter in the middle of the road at midnight, the ghost of a young boy will appear to return the quarter to you. Allegedly, this ghost is of a little boy who drowned after falling off the bridge. There are many other deaths associated with Clinton Road. One more infamous case took place in 1983, when a dead body was discovered. An autopsy revealed ice crystals in the blood vessels of the victim. This victim was later attributed to Richard Kuklinski, the infamous “Iceman.”
Another legend tells of a young woman driving a ghost camaro. This young woman was said to have crashed in 1988 and can reportedly be spotted only at night. This isn’t the only phantom vehicle which haunts Clinton Road, however. Many people have reported even witnessing headlights that aren’t attached to any vehicle speeding down the road while others claim to have seen ghostly park rangers lurking around the lonely road.
On May 4, 1932, a 32-year-old sex worker called Lilly Lindeström was murdered in her apartment in the Atlas area of Stockholm. She was killed by blunt force trauma to the head and was not discovered until 2 or 3 days later. She was found completely naked and face down on the bed. She had also been raped. A gravy ladle was found near her body with blood in it. After further inspection, it was seen that her body had been drained of blood, clearly having been poured into the gravy ladle and drank by the perpetrator. The perpetrator became known as the Atlas Vampire and has never been caught.
Hashima Island is an abandoned island which lies approximately 9 miles from Nagasaki, Japan. It was once a bustling mining community, with undersea coal mines. From 1930 to the end of the Second World War, prisoners of war were sent to the island and forced to mine coal under harsh conditions. It’s estimated that approximately 1,300 prisoners perished on the island. When the coal reserves dissipated in 1974, the mine was closed and the island left abandoned.
