Dorothy Forstein from Philadelphia, was a well-liked mother to three children and wife to city magistrate, Jules Forstein. In 1944, Dorothy dropped her children to a friend’s house and made her way back home. As she entered the empty and dark house, she was beaten unconscious by an unknown assailant hiding in her house. The assailant fled as Dorothy lay bleeding on the floor. The random attack was baffling - nothing was stolen from the house.

Her husband was cleared as a suspect and the family could not think of anybody that would have a grudge on a housewife. Dorothy recovered and life went back to normal. However, on 18 October, 1949, Jules was away from the house for the evening and their eldest daughter, 19-year-old Myrna, was also away from the house. When Jules returned home that night at approximately 11:30PM, he discovered his children cowering in their bedroom and Dorothy was nowhere to be found.

Their youngest daughter, 9-year-old Marcy, told police that she had been awakened by somebody entering the house. She got up out of bed and walked into the hall and saw a man carrying a seemingly unconscious Dorothy down the stairs. The man looked towards her and whispered “Go back to sleep, little one, your mother is alright.” Dorothy was never seen again.

16-year-old Emma Walker and 18-year-old William Riley Gaul from Tennessee had been dating for several months when she decided to call the relationship off. Unable to accept Emma’s decision, William stalked her incessantly for two months before his stalking reached calamitous heights. On the 20th of November, 2016, William took his grandfather’s gun and drove to Emma’s home. Once here, he stood outside her bedroom and watched her sleep. He then produced the stolen gun and shot Emma through her bedroom window.

The following morning, Emma’s parents were horrified to discover her deceased in her bed, saturated by her own blood. Several hours later, William professed his love for Emma on his social media accounts, completely unaware that police had already suspected him in her murder.

He was released on $1 million bail on 31 January, 2017, and shall remain free until his trial.

On 1 December, 1948, authorities were called to Somerton Beach in Adelaide, Australia. They discovered a deceased man strewn across the sand. Inside his pocket was an unused train ticket from Adelaide to Henley Beach. As well, they discovered some personal belongings such as a comb, chewing gum, cigarettes, and matches.

The man had no identification on his person. Witnesses reported seeing a man who fit his description on the beach the previous day. He had extended his arm before limply dropping it by his side. Another witness reported seeing a well-dressed man carrying a man on his shoulders. He was believed to be between 40-45 years old. The case became known The Tamam Shud case due to the bizarre note discovered in his trouser pocket which read “tamám shud” which means “ended” or “finished” in Persian.

The note was written on a torn page of Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam. Following a public appeal, the copy in which the page was torn was located and there was a phone number and an encrypted message, which has not been deciphered to this day. The identity and the cause of death of this mysterious man remains unknown.

John Balcerzak and Joseph Gabrish were the two police officers who returned 14-year-old Konerak Sinthasomphone to Jeffrey Dahmer after they found him stumbling down the road, bleeding from the anus and from a hole in his head that Dahmer had drilled. He had been drugged and raped by Jeffrey Dahmer yet managed to escape. The officers were fired after their actions were publicised, including  an audiotape of the officers making homophobic comments to their dispatcher and laughing and joking about having reunited the “lovers”. In reality, they had just returned a teenage boy to the man who would, in moments later, kill him. As soon as Sinthasomphone was back in the apartment, Dahmer murdered him.

During Dahmer’s trial, in reference to this incident, Dahmer said: “I hope and pray they can get their jobs back because I know they did their best and I just plain fooled them.” Dahmer’s wishes were soon granted, and both jobs were reinstated.

At approximately 5AM on 4 August, 2002, 39-year-old Todd Sees departed his home in Mount Pleasant Township, Pennsylvania, to drive two miles to Mt. Montour to assess the deer population. Hunting season was fast approaching. At around the same time, a number of separate witnesses reported seeing a disc-shaped object floating in the sky over Mt. Montour. One of the witnesses reported seeing a flicker of sparks coming from the wires that run across the top of the mountain. Another witness reported seeing a beam of light coming down from the UFO and then the body of a man being levitated by the beam of light.

When Sees did not return home, his son went out searching for him and found his car. Beside the car he found his father’s neatly folded clothes. A search party was assembled and they scoured the surrounding area. Two days later, his body was found in some underbrush in an area that had already been extensively searched the day before. Sees was naked except for his undergarments and was said to have an expression of horror on the face. Additionally, his body was extremely emaciated. With no external or internal injuries, the results of the autopsy were inconclusive. Many people believe that what took place that morning on Mt. Montour was something otherworldly.

At approximately 6:00AM on 12 September, 1994, police received a hysterical call from 17-year-old Michelle Murphy who exclaimed that she had woken up to discover her 15-week-old son, Travis, brutally stabbed to death on the kitchen floor. Oklahoma law forbid police from questioning minors without a guardian present. Nevertheless, Michelle was interrogated alone for eight hours. Police claim that Michelle confessed to killing her son accidentally, while quarrelling with another woman. The officer interrogating her had a tape recorder, however only managed to record the last 20 minutes of the interrogation. It was soon revealed that a neighbour, 14-year-old William Lee, had called 911 at 3:00AM on the morning of the discovery. He had claimed to witness Michelle and her estranged husband, Harold Wolf, arguing. When police arrived, there appeared to be no disturbance, nobody answered the door and they soon left.

William then told police that approximately one hour later, he saw Michelle carry baby Travis into the kitchen. He decided to get closer to see what she was doing and claimed he then saw Travis on the kitchen floor, covered in blood. Despite apparently seeing this, William said he then went home and didn’t think about calling the police. Instead, he went to bed. He recounted this story at a preliminary hearing but hanged himself just a few months later. During Michelle’s trial, William’s testimony that was recorded at the preliminary trial was used as evidence. The defence team contacted Harold, who testified that he wasn’t at the house that night and several people corroborated his story that he was actually at a friend’s house.

Despite the fact that the murder weapon was not discovered, nor was there any evidence linking Michelle to the murder, she was found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment. Michelle remained in prison for 20 years, until two lawyers decided to re-investigate the case. They discovered that there was blood discovered at the crime scene that did not match Michelle or Travis. They also uncovered that the detective who claimed that Michelle confessed, had obtained a false confession years prior. In 2014, she was finally declared innocent and released.

In 2008, 11-year-old Hana Grace-Rose Williams, from Ethiopia, was adopted by Carri and Larry Williams, a couple from Sedro-Woolley, in Washington. The couple purchased a book called “To Train Up a Child” by Michael Pearl and Debi Pearl. This book literally encourages child abuse, telling parents to withhold food, to spank children with plastic tubes, to give children freezing cold baths, and to put them outside in bad weather as punishment, all of which Carri and Larry did to Hana before she sadly perished on 11 May, 2011.

Hana was discovered naked and face down in their garden. She was severely malnourished and had her head recently shaved. Her tiny body was riddled with contusions, bruises, and scars. The couple had another adoptive son from Ethiopia, Immanuel, who told authorities that the rest of the family, including the couple’s 7 other biological children, had watched and laughed as Hana had stumbled and fallen around the garden before falling over for one last time and not getting back up. She had been outside in the cold for at least 8 hours and at one point, Carri had sent two of her sons outside to whip her with a plastic tube.

Hana was pronounced dead at the hospital and the cause of death was hypothermia compounded by malnutrition and gastritis. An investigation uncovered that Hana had been abused from the day she was adopted. She was regularly beaten and locked inside a closet. She was also denied food, clothing, and was forced to sleep outside and shower with the garden hose. Carri, who was said to be the mastermind behind the abuse, was sentenced to 37 years while Larry was sentenced to 28. They were also found guilty of assaulting Immanuel, their other adoptive child.

The fractured skull of murdered pageant queen JonBenet Ramsey, who was discovered brutally murdered in her home in Boulder, Colorado, on Christmas Day 1996. The six-year-old girl had been reported missing by her parents and a ransom note discovered, but JonBenet was found already dead from strangulation and a blow to the head. She was found in the basement of the Ramsey home, partially concealed under a blanket, with virtually no clues as to who her murderer could have been.

The JonBenet Ramsey case has baffled investigators and officers, who insist no other person but her immediate family had access to the Ramsey home on the night she died. Numerous attempts have been made to finger her brother and father for JonBenet’s murder, but evidence of their involvement is purely circumstantial. Her murder remains unsolved.

When Jeffrey Dahmer was a child, he was very kind with animals and he really loved them. But one day, a teacher that he really liked gave him some tadpoles; when Jeff discovered that the teacher gave some teadpoles to his best friend too, he became angry, jealous and possessive: he poured some motor oil in the water where the tadpoles lived and he killed them. This was the first episode of violence in Jeff’s life: he was possessive with his victims too, and he became angry and violent when the people at his home wanted to leave.
