Brian Bethel is a columnist for the Abilene Reporter-News, as well as a very well respected veteran journalist. In the 90’s, Bethel wrote a piece on a bizarre encounter he experienced that would soon become shared by others. As he said, he was sitting in his car outside a movie theatre, filling out a cheque, when he was approached by a few children. The children were said to be no older than 10-12. Bethel said he rolled down his window for the children, expecting them to request money, but he found himself gripped by fear, unable to speak. The little boy told him that they wanted to see a film but had left their money at home. He asked Bethel for a ride to his home. The boy could sense his fear and told him not to worry; that they are just a bunch of harmless kids. Bethel, who had been avoiding looking at the children, looked up, and to his horror he noticed that the kid’s eyes were coal black. Bethel quickly began rolling up his window to escape when the boy appeared to get angry. He shouted “We can’t come in unless you say it’s okay! Let us in!”

Bethal managed to drive off and wrote about the bizarre experience later on in the night. Since Bethel’s story, there have been numerous reports and stories of black eyes people, mainly children, who have the same request and who cause unexplainable terror and panic in those that encounter them. Nobody seems to have stuck around long enough to find out who the kids are or what they want.
