On March 18, 2013, authorities responded to a fire alarm at a dorm building on the University of Central Florida campus and discovered the lifeless body of 30-year-old James Seevakumaran. The suicide weapon, a .45-caliber handgun, was located underneath his legs, and a .22-caliber assault rifle was lying on the floor. After further investigation, they realized Seevakumaran intended to commit a shooting in the dorm building. Incendiary devices, about 1,000 rounds of ammunition, a story detailing a shooting, and a timeline for the attack were recovered in his room. The timeline read: 

11:15 head to Madhatter
1:30 leave and head back / get bags
2:00 Take shower
2:30 prepare
2:55 put up YouTube, etc.
3:00 pull alarm
3:05 “good luck and give them hell!”

Police believe after pulling the fire alarm, he aimed his rifle at a roommate, who then called the police, and he was startled by the fast response, which prompted him to commit suicide instead of carrying out the shooting.

Seevakumaran was in the midst of being evicted from his room, as he was no longer enrolled in the school and was behind by thousands of dollars on his dorm payments. It was also revealed he exchanged letters with Trey Sesler after one from him arrived at James’ home the day after his suicide. Sesler is currently serving life without parole for the murder of his family, and told authorities he had to kill them first to spare them the shame of him committing a Columbine-style shooting.
