43 year old Englishman Timothy Franklin met a woman named Tina Strauss while on a business trip to Jamaica and a whirlwind romance ensued. After quickly falling in love, they decided to move into a home together back in England. However, the relationship soon began to sour. Strauss grew weary of the remote village lifestyle while Franklin grew increasingly tired of her complaints and volatile temperament, and one threat by Tina to emigrate back to Jamaica proved to be the last straw for Timothy. In 1971,  he bludgeoned his lover’s face so severely that she was left mutilated beyond recognition and strangled her with a rope until she was dead. Following this vicious crime, Timothy Franklin maintained to friends that Tina had left him unexpectedly for another man. He even went as far as flying back to Jamaica on one occasion to send a telegram to his victim’s family under her name, claiming that she was fine and enjoying her time abroad. However, the suspicions surrounding this story eventually reached Detective Arthur Harrison, who then met Timothy for questioning and apparently knew from one glance that he had committed murder. The evidence he needed to confirm this was discovered in the form of travel dates linked to Franklin’s passport and the date found on the telegram received by the Strauss family. Whilst on trial, Timothy emotionally told of how he killed his partner out of self-defense, crushing her skull, nose, jaw, cheekbone and voice box in the process. The jury failed to believe this, however, and Timothy Franklin was sentenced to spend the rest of his life in prison.
