After the sudden death of his beloved mother, serial killer Ed Gein found himself alone in the massive family ranch, but he only lived in one room. Missing his matriarchal mother, he resorted to living in her room and wearing the clothes in her closet. By this time, “Weird Ol’ Eddie” had become obsessed with the female anatomy and actually wanted to become a woman. Gein considered transsexual surgery after reading about it in the newspaper, but the process was costly and frightening. Gein’s only option to “turn female” was to wear the skin of a woman. Reportedly, he would dance in the moonlight dressed in a suit made of women’s skin. He would wear a woman’s scalp and face, a skinned-out “vest” complete with breasts, and her female genitalia strapped above his own.
