William Parente married Betty Mazzarell in 1977. He had worked in Wall Street before creating his own private practice. The couple had two children, Stephanie and Catherine. On 20 April, 2009, the couple and their two children, who were now 19 and 11 years old, were discovered deceased in room 1029 of the Sherton hotel in Towson, Maryland. An investigation discovered that William had brutally killed his wife and daughters before slitting his wrists in the bath. All three were bludgeoned and asphyxiated to death. Unbeknownst to his family, William had been suffering financial difficulties and owed millions of dollars to his clients - an investigation against him was pending. During the murder invesitation, it was also discovered that he was also being investigated by the FBI for a scheme in which he had defrauded at least $20 million out of investors.
