Laureen Rahn was just 14-years-old when she disappeared from her home on April 26, 1980. Her mother went out of town and permitted Laureen to stay home alone. When her mother left, Laureen invited two of her friends over. As the three were drinking and having a good time, they heard voices growing louder and louder in the hallway. Laureen’s male friend assumed her mother came home and promptly left through the rear-exit. However, it was not her mother. Laureen’s friend stayed the night and she offered her bed, while Laureen slept on the couch. When her mom returned at midnight, she discovered that every single light bulb on all three floors of the apartment building had been removed, and that the door to her apartment was unlocked. When she checked up on Laureen and naturally assumed it was her own daughter occupying the bed. However, the next morning, she realized that Laureen was nowhere to be found. Left behind were her shoes, purse, and clothes. A clue turned up later that October when three mystery calls to her mother’s credit card for phone calls were made from California, one of them to a sexual assistance hotline. For the next year, Laureen’s mother received phone calls in the middle of the night and the person on the other end was always silent. The calls eventually became less frequent, but would return every Christmas for the next several years after Laureen vanished until she changed her number. The last reported possible sighting of Laureen places her in Anchorage, Alaska, working as a prostitute in 1988.
