Ed and the Cats

By his own admission, serial killer Edmund Kemper estimated he killed dozens of cats and dogs in his early adolescence, mostly strays he picked out from the street. Cruelty to animals is very common amongst budding serial killers, and is one of the major red flags for homicidal sociopathy.

Kemper told an interviewer while awaiting trial that he would often kill and torture his mother’s cats because she showed them more affection than she did to him. When he was ten, Kemper grabbed his mothers cat by the forepaws and sliced the top off its head of with a machete. After decapitating the cat Kemper claimed to have put the head on a stick and prayed before it. A few years later he buried another family cat alive in the back yard, dug it up, and hid its mangled remains in his bedroom closet.
