Where is Iwona Wieczorek?
On July 17, 2010, eighteen-year-old Iwona Wieczorek disappeared after attending a party in the city of Gdansk, Poland. At around 12:15am Iwona left the party and went to a club in Sopot with four friends. Iwona eventually got in a fight with one of her friends and left the club, walking towards the seaside. At this point Iwona had very little money and her phone battery was low. She decided to wait for dawn and stayed close to the beach until around 4am, after that she started walking home barefoot, her new shoes were hurting her and she decided to take them off, there’s footage of Iwona walking close to the beach in direction to her home, it was a walk of about 6km (3,7 miles). During her journey she allegedly texted her friend Adria, with whom she had a fight earlier and accordin to Adria they set the argument over the phone. She told Adria she was too drunk to go home and face her mother, Adria offered to leave the keys of her home for Iwona to come in once she arrived, this was the last time Iwona contacted anyone. At the time Iwona called Adria she was allegedly passing by Iwona’s house, apparently they lived nearby each other, and Iwona’s stepfather claims he heard Iwona’s voice and not only Adria’s, Adria justified this saying she was on speaker with Iwona. The CCTV footage of Iwona walking close to the beach shows a man with a towel at a short distance from Iwona, he has not been identified and according to the police he has nothing to do with Iwona’s disappearance. According to the police theory Iwona made it safely to the area where she lived but was then abducted by someone who was probably waiting in a car and who she knew. A few months before Iwona had dated a twenty-five-year-old cop, after they broke up, shortly before her disappearance, he was seen around her house a couple of times but he was never seen as a person of interest by the police. Iwona was only reported missing on July 17 at around 7pm, her parents thought she had stayed at Adria’s house and according to Adria she thought Iwona had gone home instead of coming to her house. The investigation on Iwona’s disappearance only started one week after the fact, at first the police had thought she was partying somewhere else or that she had simply ran away, during this week important pieces of evidence might have disappeared. No traces of Iwona were ever found, not even her belongings. The case had a lot of media attention in Poland and was even worked on by psychics and clairvoyants. There is a reward of 1 000 000 polish zloty, around 270K US dollars to anyone who might give any information on what may have happened to Iwona but to this day no one has given any reliable information that may help solve the case. There are a lot of theories surrounding Iwona, some say she fell victim to sex trafficking, other’s say she was a call girl, there’s also rumours that her friends were involved in a drug related business and that she knew too much and was killed because of that. Some people believe that what Iwona’s stepfather heard was actually Iwona speaking to Adria in person and not a phone conversation on speaker, if this is true Adria probably knows what happened to Iwona but never told the truth. Even with all these theories what happened to Iwona on that night is still a mystery. Iwona Wieczorek remains missing to this day.
