On April 26, 2006, 12-year-old Jasmine Richardson, along with her 23-year-old boyfriend Jeremy Steinke, entered the Richardson home in Medicine Hat, Alberta, and together they brutally stabbed the entire family to death, including Jasmine’s parents and 8-year-old brother. Jasmine was motivated to kill her family after being punished by her parents for dating Jeremy, due to the broad age gap. Before the murder, Jeremy and a couple of his friends watched the 1994 film Natural Born Killers. Jeremy then turned to his friends and told them that he and Jasmine were going to carry out a similar attack. Both were charged with three counts of first-degree murder. While Jeremy was sentenced to three life sentences, Jasmine only received ten years in prison. Jasmine Richardson is believed to be Canada’s youngest convicted killer.
